With a GDP of almost £350bn, the economy of the Northern Powerhouse is equivalent to being the 21st largest in the world. According to UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), businesses in the North-West export £25bof goods annually to every corner of the globe, yet there remains massive untapped potential for future international growth.

Clive Drinkwater, Director, North West, UKTI says, “Manchester was the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The abundance of expertise here is in high demand around the world, yet it has so much further to go in realising its potential. Only by working together will we transform the local economy and create a more prosperous future.”

“Going Global in 2016” is the theme of the first in a series of new business events from XYZ Events, a new programme of events for creative business professionals in Manchester. It promises to give businesses of all sizes the opportunity to find out what going global means in 2016, featuring insights and inspiration from leading experts including UKTI and Manchester-based global brands such as Vimto International.

This free to attend breakfast seminar is being held on Friday 6th May on the 6th Floor of the King Street Townhouse, Manchester’s first baby grand hotel. Future XYZ events are expected to tour the city ahead of the XYZ Building opening of its own dedicated event space later this year. Global Radio, Shoosmiths and NCC group have been confirmed as anchor tenants and collectively take over 110,00 sq. ft of space. Earlier this week, restaurant and bar group Drake and Morgan also confirmed that they will be opening a 5,800 sq.ft restaurant, The Refinery in the XYZ building this Autumn.

“We are delighted to be starting to build the XYZ programme of events” said Chris Reay, Spinningfields’ Estate Director. “Five years in the making, XYZ is Manchester’s newest landmark and a prestigious development in the Spinningfields business district opening in Autumn 2016. As well as offering innovative working spaces, the building will provide a dedicated event space and sophisticated food and drink. XYZ Events will showcase the types of events we’ll be offering to the business community at XYZ, all of which will have a global and forward-thinking business feel.”

The event starts at 8.30am with breakfast and a welcome from XYZ Events and event sponsor, Allied London. Clive Drinkwater, Director North West, UKTI will open up the seminar, followed by the showcase of a UKTI Export Champion business. Global Drinks brand Vimto International will present a big brand insight to international trade – they first exported in 1920 to India and have since developed a market in over 65 countries worldwide – followed by a panel debate, Q&A, coffee and networking.
