Four Greater Manchester MP’s will be sitting around the first meeting of Andy Burnham’s Cabinet this morning

Lucy Powell is the new Education Secretary, Angela Rayner returns to cabinet as Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds returns to his position as Business, Innovation, Science and Trade Secretary and Lisa Nandy keeps her position as Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary

After a day which saw 27 appointments there were 15 new additions to the cabinet while members of Kier Starmer’s cabinet were kept on, with 7 staying in the same post, and 5 getting new jobs.

Lucy Powell wrote on x

“Absolutely thrilled the be appointed Education Secretary.For me there’s no more important job for any government than making sure young people have the best education, the best opportunities and the best future they can.”

Angela Rayner wrote on the same platform
