Andy Burnham has begun the process of appointing his cabinet
The former Defence Secretary John Healey was the first of the new appointments to walk up to No 10 and he has been confirmed as the new Chancellor
Louise Haigh another early arrival will be First Secretary of State,Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, a de facto Deputy and Minister for the cabinet office
Ed Miliband and Shabana Mahmood who were seen both walking up to No10 at the same time have been appointed Foreign Secretary and been retained as Home Secretary respectively
Yvette Cooper has been appointed as Health Secretary while Pat McFadden remains at Work and Pensions
He earlier started the process with a number of sackings of current ministers
Top of the list to go was David Lammy, former Foreign Secretary and Justice Secretary and Britain’s first Black Deputy Prime Minister and the Chancellor Rachel Reeves
It is understood that Reeves was offered a significant job thought to be as Defence Secretary but declined
Lammy wrote on X
I would have been proud to continue serving in Cabinet. But a new Prime Minister is entitled to build his own team, and I wish Andy Burnham and the new Cabinet every success.
Peter Kyle has been sacked as Business Secretary as has Steve Reed as Housing Secretary, Lord Harmer as Attorney General, Liz Kendall as Technology Secretary and the Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens
The former Attorney General wrote on social media
“I’ve been so lucky to be a part of Keir’s team, as he delivered for the public at home while rebuilding the UK’s reputation abroad, in particular on the rule of law.
“I am particularly proud of the Hillsborough Law, which will be a truly radical transformation in the relationship between those who govern and the people they serve.”
While the former Housing Secretary wrote
I hope those who did not show loyalty to Keir will now show it to you. I’m proud I acted with integrity at every step over the turbulent last few months…”
Andy Burnham has also sacked Hilary Benn as Northern Ireland Secretary
