In an extraordinary non scripted speech at this morning’s Press Conference former GMP detective Maggie Oliver slammed her previous employer

Addressed to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Oliver said

“I take great exception with the speech you’ve read today. This report talks about the past. But I want to bring it into the future. And I’m sorry Mr Watson but the failures that happened then are still happening now.”

She told the assembled press to please read every page of the report and remember the children that have shared their stories for this truth to come out

She asked the Chief Constable to allow some if the survivors by the assurance review team saying at the moment that their legal department is not allowing them to be interviewed

Oliver resigned from her job over the scandal said

“My work in the Maggie Oliver Foundation means that I have current information about what is going on today. I would say categorically and I am sorry Mr Watson, but the faiilures that happened then, are still happening now.”

“I haven’t heard a word from you in two years” she told Watson as she criticises his force for continuing to fail young women who report sexual crimes.

I want change from this report she said “I don’t want to be standing here in another ten years talking about another report

She talked of one of the victims Amber who was criminalised and said the zGreater Manchester force had until two years ago thought that was the correct thing to do

She told the room that the report has taken her back 12 years

“I can’t sleep at night wondering what she could have done differently. “I think about those girls and what happened to them… This is very much about the past… Far too often this is happening today.”
