People are continuing to use the moors surrounding Greater Manchester for barbecues according to the Fire Service.

In a warning issued yesterday, the fire service said

“Despite Government advice to stay at home today we’ve had reports of lots of people having barbecues on the moorlands and this is very dangerous.

It pose a huge risk of fire, is a risk to the environment and ties up our firefighters who may be needed for more serious incidents.”

The warning comes as the fire service responds to the challenges over the current crisis

They will continue to respond to emergencies and focus on fire safety where there is risk to life and provide Safe and Well advice over the phone and assess high risk visits to continue to deliver these with extra precautions where possible

But they will be scaling back other non-emergency work in an attempt to reduce the exposure of our staff to COVID-19 and protect residents from any potential infection risk
