Like many museums across the world, Manchester Museum, part of The University of Manchester is currently closed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
However, Egyptology in Lockdown Live is part of a wider programme of activity linked to Manchester Museum in Quarantine, which aims to open up the museum online, continuing access to exhibitions, learning resources and volunteering opportunities, for all ages. It will invite viewers into Dr Campbell Price’s Study in his home to talk all things Ancient Egypt while the museum is on lockdown.
Manchester Museum in Quarantine is a carefully curated mobile site containing engaging digital resources to help entertain, educate and spark joy and wonder until the museum reopens. Egyptology in Lockdown Live is aimed at people of all ages and suitable for home schooling or the generally curious.
Egyptology is one of the museum’s most loved collections illustrating both everyday life and preparations for the afterlife. In Egyptology in Lockdown Live Curator Dr Campbell Price will explore iconic objects from the collection, share resources to access the museum’s collection off-site and will answer the top 10 Ancient Egypt questions submitted every week.
Dr. Campbell Price, Curator of Egypt and Sudansaid: “Ancient Egypt fascinates people. Especially with kids stuck at home, what better time to answer some of those most burning questions? I hope the livestream will be a source of unexpected insights – and some tips to find out more about this fascinating civilisation”
Egyptology in Lockdown is live on Periscope @mcrmuseum every Thursday at 3pm, starting Friday 30 April 2020. Submit a question to Egyptology in Lockdown using #MMinQuarantine or contact us https://www.mminquarantine.com/talk-to-us
