Every Picture Tells a Story -An Evening with Stanley Chow and Chris Warburton

To celebrate the success of Stanley Chow’s exhibition, A Random Selection of his Illustrations Featuring People from Film, Stage and TV, a special in-conversation event will be held at The Edge Theatre & Arts Centre in Chorlton.

Internationally renowned illustrator, Stanley Chow will be chatting to BBC Radio 5 Live broadcaster, Chris Warburton about his work and focusing on some of the designs featured in the current exhibition, which finishes on the night of the event itself, Thursday 30th May.

Since he started working as a professional artist nearly thirty years ago, Stan has diversified into many areas within design and illustration, but he is best known for his distinctive portraiture of pop stars, actors, sports people and celebrities. The exhibition is the first time Stan has curated a collection of work from film, stage and television ~ several of whom are BAFTA, Emmy, Olivier & Academy Award winners! The three patrons of The Edge, Sir Mark Rylance, Julie Hesmondhalgh and John Thomson are also included.

“We are thrilled to have such a local legend showing a collection of his work in our building in the heart of Chorlton”, commented Janine Waters, Artistic Director of The Edge. “It seemed a fitting way of winding down the exhibition with an in-conversation event and, as Stan says, ‘every picture tells a story’ so we can’t wait to hear more about his inspiration.”

This in-conversation event will be an opportunity for fans of Stan’s work to ask questions and to potentially ‘win’ signed copies of his prints. Chris Warburton himself is a big fan of Stan’s as he explains,

“It’s probably easier to ask who in Manchester doesn’t have a Stanley Chow on their walls these days! I love his instantly recognisable style and have built up quite a collection over the years. Stan’s story of achieving, and maintaining, global success is also a fascinating one. I’m really looking forward to sitting down with him to find out more”.

Each portrait that Chris discusses with Stanley on the night will be signed, and some lucky members of the audience will be randomly selected to win the prints.

“It’s been wonderful to the exhibition at the Edge, the venue has been perfect temporary home for the pictures on display,” commented Stanley. “It’s shame it has to end, but hopefully we’ll can go out with a bit of a bang.”
