Food-lovers and rail enthusiasts can treat themselves to the ultimate foodie experience on the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) with a replication of a first class dining experience of days gone by.
Starting with a glass of fizz surrounded by plush furniture, crisp table linens and polished wooden panelling, the experience stretches over a two and three quarter hour steam train ride through the Irwell Valley, including a four course dinner with complimentary sparkling wine, followed by tea or coffee and after dinner chocolates.

Red Rose diners will run throughout May and June with the following dates: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, 28th May and 10th, 11th, 17th, 24th June. The event will return for a selection of dates later on in the year from July to November.
Murder Mystery
Guests are invited to put their thinking caps on as ELR is hosting a number of murder mystery nights this spring – each one featuring a different theme and a riddle to solve, all aboard a stream train ride through Irwell Valley, alongside a four course meal.
There is something for every aspiring detective, with nights this spring including Allo Allo – taking place at Cafe Rene, the devilishly delicious Great British Bump Off, Treacherous Terror Train full of ghosts of murder victims and the glamorous Hollywood Homicide.
Allo, Allo is taking place on the 4th June 2022, the Great British Bump Off event takes place on 7th May and then again on 5th November.
The Treacherous Terror Train murder mystery night takes place on 21st May and then returns on 22nd October.
Hollywood Homicide murder mystery night will take place on 18th June and then returns on 17th September.
Wine Tasting
The best way to celebrate any special occasion is to enjoy a tipple alongside a fabulous four course meal. ELR’s beautifully restored Pullman-style carriages, hauled by a historic steam locomotive, take guests on a two and three quarter hour journey through Irwell Valley.
The indulgent wine tasting night is an experience guests won’t forget with an expert-led wine tasting by Kwoff Wines.
The wine tasting runs on selected Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year, with the next ones running on 17th June.
Gin Tasting
The best way to celebrate any special occasion or have a unique Friday night experience is to enjoy a tipple alongside a fabulous four course meal. ELR’s beautifully restored Pullman-style carriages, hauled by a historic steam locomotive, will take guests on a two and three quarter hour journey through Irwell Valley while they learn about and try some of the world’s finest gins.
ELR’s gin tasting night is an experience guests won’t forget with an expert-led gin tasting with Kwoff. Taste buds will be in for an evening of fantastic flavours and aromas, complete with a four-course meal followed by tea or coffee and after dinner mints.
The gin tasting runs on selected Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year, with the next one running on 27th May and then later on in August.
A taste of Italy
As part of its themed night series, the heritage railway is putting on an Italian affair to remember. A continental culinary triumph, guests’ tastebuds will be taken on a journey to warm Italy, while aboard one of the magical heritage steam trains.
This special night of Italian dining is only available on Friday 17th June.
