El Gato Negro

Chef Patron and Creative Director Simon Shaw has introduced a new menu at El Gato Negro.

The list of new dishes follows Simon’s return to the kitchen at the award-winning restaurant, as he welcomes new Head Chef and former Harvey Nichol’s colleague, Antony Shirley, to the team.

Featuring on the top of the list and returning for autumn are two classics – chargrilled onglet steak with patatas a lo pobre and whole plaice, served with pancetta, mushrooms, baby onions and butter sauce.

Joining the hearty dishes, are chicken thighs with romessco sauce, seafood rice with prawns, mussels, hake and chorizo, and Matrimonia, a delicious duo of marinated and salted anchovies served with piquillo pepper.

Harnessing the season’s finest crops, a number of new vegetarian dishes also feature including: roasted cauliflower with shabu shabu dressing and fried chickpeas; smoked potatoes with capers, shallots and parsley butter; and roast beetroot with whipped Monte Enebro cheese, orange, dill and toasted hazelnuts.

For diners with room for a sweet treat the acclaimed chef has introduced three new desserts:  Monte Enebro cheesecake with poached rhubarb; Millefeuille with hazelnut, coffee and praline; and a chocolate and red wine tart with poached pear.

Speaking on his return to the kitchen and the introduction of the new seasonal additions, Simon commented: “It’s great to be back in the kitchen and to welcome Antony to the team.  It’s been 13 years since we worked together back at Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, but nothing has changed!

The autumn menu is available at the popular King Street restaurant now.  For those looking ahead to the festive season, El Gato Negro has introduced a Christmas offer for parties of seven to 16 people, with private hire available for larger bookings.  Priced at £40 per head the specially curated set menu features many of the award-winning kitchen’s classics.  Sittings are available at 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm.
