A lot has changed this year, and according to Deliveroo, the way we eat our food is one of them. The food-delivery company has reported that people no longer use the app just for their go-to Friday night takeaway, but increasingly also as a one-stop-shop for ordering fresh and everyday ingredients like fruit and veg, bread, and milk.

According to Deliveroo, in Manchester the number of grocery, convenience and deli stores on the platform have more than doubled in the past year. Customers can now order from 98 stores across the city, including ALDI, Co-op, Morrisons, Shell and Booths.

Here are the five most popular grocery orders on Deliveroo in Manchester in the past three months:

Medium Free Range Eggs 6 from ALDI

Warburtons Toastie White Bread from Co-op

Semi Skimmed Milk British (2 Pint) from Morrisons

Luxury Toilet Tissue 4 Pack from ALDI

Butter from Booths

When it comes to veg over vegging out; customers in Manchester’s top orders are cucumbers followed by mixed peppers and large brown onions – and if they’re feeling fruity, bananas are their go-to, followed by strawberries and blueberries. For breakfast, Mancunians appear to opt for the British classics; eggs are the most popular choice, followed by white bread and then crumpets. For the city’s top sweet treat, Jaffa Cakes take the crown, followed by Cadbury Dairy Milk Giant Chocolate Buttons and a bag of Maltesers.

According to Deliveroo, since January, the company has seen a 282% increase in demand for healthy orders driven by these partnerships with the likes of Co-op, ALDI, Morrisons, Waitrose, Holland & Barrett, Daylesford Organic and Farmdrop. This was especially important to Brit’s during lockdown who according to customer order data chose Deliveroo to order healthily. Co-op for example saw a 82% rise in fruit and veg orders on Deliveroo during lockdown. Overall the top five orders in the ‘grocery’ category on Deliveroo were strawberries, cucumbers, mineral water, bananas and avocados.

More recently, the company has also reported a rise in orders of baking essentials like flour, eggs, sugar and butter – as the temperatures drop and the nights grow darker, it appears Britain’s baking cravings have kicked in. Last week the company launched a new “Bakeaway Bundle” with Co-op, allowing customers to mix-and-match up to 24 different baking ingredients from flour and eggs to cake decorations and flavourings. The limited-edition bundle is available from all 416 Co-op stores live on Deliveroo across the UK.
