With the help of Lord Mayor, Councillor Susan Cooley, four giant pandas caused panda-monium in Manchester yesterday to celebrate Earth Hour, the world’s biggest call to action to protect the planet.
Manchester was the second stop on WWF’s Earth Hour tour, which is traveling across the country, stopping off at key Earth Hour cities to inspire businesses, schools and individuals to sign up to Earth Hour and help protect our planet.
Manchester is a key city for Earth Hour with local landmarks including Manchester United’s Old Trafford already signed up to take part.
Lord Mayor, Councillor Susan Cooleysaid: “Manchester is proud to take part in Earth Hour with a number of local landmarks, businesses and residents already signed up to help protect our planet and I, for one, am excited to be involved with such a great and inspiring event. Everyone can make a difference to help protect our planet and we all have a key role to play.”
Now in its ninth year, WWF’s Earth Hour unites people in hundreds of countries for the world’s biggest call to action to protect the planet. On Saturday 28 March at 8.30pm, millions of people and global iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, New York’s Times Square and the Sydney Harbour Bridge will switch off their lights for one hour to show they care about tackling climate change and creating a sustainable future.
