The Museum of Science and Industry has been shortlisted for the prestigious Lever Prize 2016.
The museum has been shortlisted for the learning and public programme that will accompany a major 2016 exhibition which explores the inspiring past, present and future of wonder material graphene.

The Lever Prize is awarded annually by the North West Business Leadership Team (NWBLT) in partnership with Arts and Business. The winner receives a £10,000 cash award and the opportunity to develop working relationships with some of the North West’s most influential business leaders.

The graphene exhibition, which opens in July next year, will introduce audiences to the world’s first 2D material, first isolated in Manchester. The learning and public programme, which is shortlisted for the award, will engage adults, families and school groups in a host of inspiring ways. It will engage people with the idea of being creative, experimental and working with a team to solve problems, think scientifically and make new discoveries.

Together, the exhibition and public programme signify the museum’s ambitions to be the northern home for creative contemporary science engagement.

Sally MacDonald, Director of the Museum of Science and Industry, said, “We are really pleased to be shortlisted for the Lever Prize 2016. We are excited about our plans to share the wonders of graphene with a wider audience through our innovative learning and public programmes, especially as these will take place during Manchester’s year as European City of Science”.

The identity of the 2016 winner will be announced at a presentation event early in the New Year.
