A new exhibition charting Anthony Burgess’s early years in Manchester has opened.

Manchester Made Me follows the writer’s early years in the city from the schools he attended in Moss Side and Victoria Park, to his regular visits to Manchester Central Library and the Free Trade Hall.

The exhibition offers the chance to see the city through the eyes of one of its greatest writers. Featuring material from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation collection and the Manchester Local Image Collection.

Manchester’s Central Library saw frequent visits from the young Burgess. It was for him both a place for study and recreation and would recall one occasion when it was the setting for a romantic assignation.

Thu 11 Jun – Mon 20 Jul, Music Library and Reading Room, Central Library, St Peter’s Square, M2 5PD, 9am – 8pm,
