The long-awaited demolition of Ancoats’ Cheshire Cheese pub has finally taken place, with Northhold Group starting on site with its new residential scheme, Deluna.

Deluna will replace the dilapidated building, named in a nod to Ancoats’ Italian roots dating back to the 19th century.

The site is an integral part of Homes England’s regeneration and investment into Ancoats and is the final parcel of land being brought forward in the area.

The 7-storey, brick clad building will deliver 38 city centre homes – a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments – along with car parking, cycle storage and a shop at ground floor level.

Piling works are expected to begin this month, with ABGI Construction appointed as main contractor.

Vanessa Warbrick, Development Director at Northhold Group, said: “This is a prime site in one of Manchester’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, so it’s great to finally get works underway and see the building demolished.

“It’s the final piece of the puzzle in the transformation of Ancoats, so it’s exciting to see Deluna taking shape and returning the site to positive use.”

Deluna will complete in December 2021.
