Deliveroo has announced a special partnership with the Jewish community in the lead up to the beginning of the festival of Passover this Wednesday.

The company has partnered with Chabad centres across the UK and Ireland to provide a special Seder kit to Jewish households ahead of Passover. This will be of particular benefit to the vulnerable and isolated who are unable to go shopping to buy what they need for Seder during this period.

The aim is to make sure that families and households have access to all the necessary items for the Passover meals that mark the beginning of the festival.

This partnership is particularly important when so many people, especially the elderly and vulnerable, are unable to leave their homes due to COVID-19 and may not be able to have a Seder meal as a result.

The Seder kit was created by Chabad Lubavitch UK in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure people didn’t have to compromise between their safety and one of the most important religious celebrations in Judaism.

To meet the ever-growing demand before Passover that begins on Wednesday evening, it became clear that a new and urgent nationwide delivery needed to be found. Delivery will be free of charge and all deliveries will be contact-free to ensure safety.
Deliveroo customers will now be able to purchase a “Seder-to-Go” kit on the app. With the box containing all the necessary items for the Passover Seder, Deliveroo customers will not need to leave their homes.
This service will be available from tonight until Tuesday evening from the following locations and only where Deliveroo currently provides coverage:
Battersea, Finchley, Islington, Wimbledon, Bromley, Manchester, Leeds, Crouch End, Bloomsbury, Golders Green, Kentish Town, Bushey, Watford and Dublin.

The company asks that those who are able to procure provisions for Passover via their regular channels do so, prioritising those who are vulnerable and unable to otherwise access provisions.

Each Seder-to-Go box will contain: a roll up seder plate; six small containers containing all the items for the seder plate. Separately listed are a box of Matzah, a bottle of grape juice, a bottle of wine, a Kiddush cup and a unique and user friendly Haggadah with English translation and instructions.

Rabbi Bentzi Sudak, Chief Executive of Chabad Lubavitch UK said:

“These kits will help to ensure every Jewish person is able to celebrate the festival of our freedom in these uniquely challenging times. Not only do the kits provide essential supplies for people who cannot go out to shop for Passover provisions, they mean that vulnerable people who should be staying at home do not have to choose between their safety and having a Seder. For those in quarantine or self-isolation who have never conducted a Seder on their own, the included guide and Seder supplies will make that possible.”

Stephen Goldstein, Executive Vice President at Deliveroo said:

“It is a privilege to support Chabad Lubavitch UK and to use our delivery network to bring the joy of Pesach to people across the UK and Ireland. We are honoured to support the Jewish community and play a small role to help people, especially the elderly and vulnerable. Deliveroo’s aim is to support as many people as possible during this difficult time, including delivering 500,000 free meals to the NHS to show our support and gratitude to NHS staff working night and day to keep us safe. We have also set up a fundraising function in-app for our customers to donate.”
