The number of Coronavirus cases in the UK has risen to 1950, an increase of 407 from yesterday while experts have admitted the UK could already have up to 55,000 cases of the coronavirus.

The Government has advised against all non essential Foreign Travel for an initial period of thirty day.

The foreign secretary Dominic Rasb revealed the measure in the Commons this lunchtime and said it would remain in place for an “initial period” of 30-days.

He said the advice is partly based on the risk that travellers won’t be able to return home because ‘often there is little or no notice’ from countries closing their borders. But ultimately, ‘the decision on whether to travel remains an individual decision’, Raab said.

Huge numbers of cinemas across the UK are also shutting down including the Odeon and Cineworld

In a statement in the last couple of hours the Odeon chain said

“Following government guidelines Odeon cinemas are closed until further notice.” Vue cinemas also followed suit, saying in a statement: “In line with the UK Government’s latest public health advice we will be closing all our 91 cinemas in the UK & Ireland from today, March 17, until further notice. As you would expect, we are also doing our part by putting employment policies in place so that our staff are protected and are not penalised financially.”

The Chelsea Flower Show has also be cancelled along with all other RHS shows until the end of June

Sue Biggs, RHS Director General, says: “In these unprecedented challenging times we have carefully followed Government advice and made difficult, responsible decisions with the health and safety of people at the foremost of our minds.

“Our RHS Shows are vitally important platforms for the horticultural industry, and we are especially aware of the impact of cancelling these events on everyone involved.  We will be doing all we can to help growers and nurseries to sell the plants they will have grown for the cancelled Shows.
