The number of daily coronavirus tests has fallen below 100,000 for the fourth day in a row since reaching Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s target by the end of April with just 69,463 conducted in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday
The figures were announced by the Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick as led the Daily Downing Street Press Conference.
Earlier Boris Johnson said it is an “ambition” to reach 200,000 coronavirus tests per day “by the end of this month”
649 more people have died in the UK after testing positive for the coronavirus bringing the total to 30,076 as of 5pm on Tuesday
In a press conference aimed at the regions Jenrick said that every local economy now needs a plan to restart and recover.
That will include how workplaces can be adapted, how outdoor spaces can be managed and how public transport can operate.
Coronavirus, he said, won’t hold back the government’s commitment to levelling up.
