The Collyhurst born footballer Stan Bowles has died at the age of 75

Bowles was diagnosed with with Alzheimer’s disease in 2015

He began his career as an apprentice at Manchester City, later joining Fourth Division Crewe and then Carlisle.

But it was at Queen’s Park Rangers where his career blossomed during his 315 appearances for the west London club

Bowles won five England caps, his only international goal coming against Wales at Ninian Park in 1974.

Bowles moved back to Manchester to be cared for by his eldest daughter, Andria after the illness was diagnosed

The club said in a statement

It is with a heavy heart we have learned that QPR legend Stan Bowles has passed away.A footballing icon and arguably the greatest to have ever worn our famous blue and white hoops.

All our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Manchester City said in a statement

We’re saddened to hear former City forward Stan Bowles has passed away aged 75.Everyone at the Club would like to send their condolences to Stan’s family and friends at this difficult time
