Christmas has come early for the team at Thomas Carter Opticians on Station Road in Urmston; the optical experts are the lucky winners of the McGoff Group’s ‘Light Up Your Windows’ competition.

Designed to encourage businesses across Urmston to illuminate their windows, the sparkling competition from the company behind the forthcoming Market41 food hall incentivised those with a shop front to light up their windows for the chance to win £500 to treat their hard-working team in the new year.

More than 20 businesses from across Urmston registered to take part, upping the ante with their festive decorations, window dressings and external lighting this year with the aim of impressing the judges to win the cash prize.

Judging was undertaken by group project manager at the McGoff Group Kay Johnson and Urmston’s Wayne Devlin.  Both were hugely impressed with the quality and standard of all entries but felt that Thomas Carter Opticians just pipped the others to the post with its amazing winter wonderland window display that featured lights and baubles created by local school children using recycled materials.

Kay commented: “We are delighted to present the prize to the team at Thomas Carter Opticians.  The window was fabulous, and we could tell that a great deal of time and effort had gone into the creation from local school children and also the in-store team.  It combined the lovely lights that we were looking for with everything else that is important about Christmas; children, family, magic and sparkle plus an important message about recycling.”

Claire Thomas Carter added: “We are absolutely thrilled to win the competition; the standard of entries has been very high and there are some great window and lighting displays up around Urmston at the moment.  Our competition was open to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children from schools across Urmston, including Delamere, and we are delighted with the result.”

Wayne Devlin said: “As an Urmston resident, it has been wonderful to see the town light up over recent weeks.  The centre feels really festive and I think the additional lights have provided extra Christmas cheer, especially on the late night shopping evenings and for those enjoying a night out at the weekend.”

Light Up Your Windows was also supported by Love Urmston; a new brand to celebrate and champion all that is great about living, working, shopping and going out in Urmston.  For further information, please visit the new Love Urmston landing page at www.loveurmston.co.uk, sign up for the newsletter or like and follow the social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
