Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra returns to the Royal Northern College of Music next week with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s masterful final symphony, one of the defining works of the romantic period.

The work was first performed in St Petersburg conducted by the composer on what turned out to be his final public performance just nine days before his death and would be performed twenty one days later at his memorial.

Outstanding violinist Elizaveta Saul, a winner of the Chetham’s Concerto Competition, joins the orchestra for Prokofiev’s virtuosic and lyrical Second Violin Concerto.

Marlon Brando fans will also enjoy Bernstein’s gritty and powerful Symphonic Suite from the 1954 film On the Waterfront.
