2020 has been a tough year for the jobs scene in Manchester and across the north of England. But a ray of good news could be illuminating an otherwise dreary employment scene, and from an unexpected direction. The CBD industry has been on a sharp upward trajectory over the past two years or so. Even a global pandemic has done nothing to damage that – in fact if anything, it has made people even more interested in and receptive towards complimentary wellness therapies.

CBD sales booming in Manchester – and beyond

CBD products have appeared in health food stores and on market stalls all around Manchester over recent months.  Yet that is only the tip of the iceberg. Well-known online sellers like CBD Cibdol have customers all across Europe and beyond. What’s more, the range of CBD related products they sell, such as CBD oils, gels and gummies, is expanding all the time.

The UK CBD market is currently worth around £300 million. By 2025, it is predicted to hit the £1 billion mark. That sort of growth is creating jobs all along the supply chain and at every level.

What jobs could the industry create?

Right now, if you search the online job boards, you will find something in the region of 1,000 vacancies in the CBD industry. Given that so many business sectors are being forced to cut their workforces due to the broader events of 2020, that makes it an obvious choice for people searching the employment market for a new start.

The beauty of it is that there are opportunities for all. Unskilled labourers or school leavers looking for their first job can find vacancies in growing and cultivation paying around £15,000 per annum. At the other end of the scale, companies are looking for the best business brains to fill top management roles and have six-figure salaries on offer.

Working smarter

As well as providing job opportunities, CBD can also help candidates perform better. CBD aids concentration, helps people to wind down after a busy day and promotes healthier sleeping patterns. It’s exactly what today’s workforce needs in order to work smarter and more effectively, and can ultimately lead to a virtuous circle in which healthy workers, high productivity and increased sales are all critical components.

A shot in the arm when we need it most

It is impossible to know just how dramatic the ultimate impact of this year’s disruptions will be on Manchester’s economy, but we know the effect will be serious and lasting. One thriving industry alone is not going to alter that. However, the Health of the CBD sector and the opportunities it brings is a welcome piece of positive news in what has been the hardest year in more than a generation.

If you are among the thousands of Manchester residents currently job hunting, why not give the industry a closer look? It could provide just the career opportunity you have been searching for.
