Manchester City will head into their 2025/26 Champions League campaign eager to put last season’s disappointment firmly behind them.
They only just made it through the new league phase with a 22nd-place finish, before losing 6-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid in the knockout round play-offs.
They are one of the favourites to secure a top eight spot this time around, which would secure a coveted automatic berth for the round of 16.

Champions League 2025/26 – Manchester City preview
The Opta supercomputer projections ranked Man City fourth in its predictions for who will win the Champions League this season.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are rated as more likely to lift the trophy, while Man City are handed the same simulated ranking as Barcelona.
Intriguingly, the La Liga giants are 6/1 joint favourites alongside Liverpool with online bookmakers, with PSG (13/2), Arsenal (7/1) and Madrid (8/1) next in the betting.
However, the composition of the league phase draw gives Man City an excellent chance of progressing to the round of 16.
Odds of 9/1 to lift the trophy look generous given the plethora of options manager Pep Guardiola has at his disposal this season.
City will fancy their chances of making a winning start after being handed a home game against Serie A champions Napoli in their opening fixture.
While the Italian side are no mugs, they are without a win in their ten previous away matches against English teams (D3, L7).
Away fixtures against Monaco and Villarreal will hold little fear for Guardiola’s side and they should head into Matchday 4 with a perfect record.
Borussia Dortmund are next on the agenda, followed by another home game against Bayer Leverkusen. City are capable of beating both Bundesliga teams.
Things get trickier on Matchday 6 as City head to the Bernabeu Stadium to face Madrid. Regardless of the result, the Premier League outfit should still be in the top eight after the game.
They round off their campaign with winnable-looking fixtures against Bodo/Glimt (A) and Galatasaray (H). If City live up to expectations, they should comfortably progress to the last-16.
