Leigh MP Jo Platt has launched a campaign to connect her town back into the rail network.

Her constituency is the fifth largest in the UK not to have a train station and the MP says that reconnecting the constituency of Leigh to the rail network is an essential and urgently needed component of an integrated transport system for the area.

She has launched a petition calling upon the Mayor of Greater Manchester to work with the Transport Secretary along with TfGM and TfN to make immediate plans to re open a Station in Golborne and reconnect the constituency of Leigh to the national rail network.

The town’s last station closed in 1969 and part of the MP’s plan would see the creation of a link with the guided busway to allow the new station to be connected to the centre of Leigh
