Network Rail has warned passengers that services from the capital to the West Midlands, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow will be subject to delays and cancellations throughout Sunday.
People have been warned there will be no trains leaving Euston after 21:00 GMT as engineers are working overnight.it prepared to carry out emergency engineering repairs to 1,000 metres of damaged overhead wires in the South Kenton area.
The repairs will start at 9pm tonight, meaning trains in and out of London Euston will stop running earlier than usual, and will not resume until 6am tomorrow (Monday 9 March).
James Dean, director for Network Rail’s West Coast Mainline South route, said: “We are sorry to all passengers whose journeys have been affected by this.
“Repairing 1,000 metres of wires is a significant job, which is why we need to stop trains running earlier than usual this evening to allow our engineers to do their work and minimise disruption to passenger services tomorrow.
“We advise passengers travelling on the West Coast main line to check before they travel at National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator.”
Further work to repair the damage is likely to be needed on Monday night, too.
Passengers intending to travel to or from London Euston over the next couple of days should continue to check their journeys before they travel, either with their train operator directly or via National Rail Enquiries.
