Temperatures across the region are set to plummet in the next few hours after a second day of record breaking heat

A temperature of 40.2c has been recorded at Heathrow breaking the 39.1°C that had been provisionally recorded at Charlwood, Surrey

Earlier this afternon, a temperature of 36.2C was recorded at The University of Manchester’s Whitworth Observatory

Forecasters are predicting a 15-17°C drop in the maximum temperature for Wednesday as cooler air moves in overnight from the West

Tomorrow will see a humid morning with plenty of cloud, perhaps some drizzle or light rain with the odd bright spell developing into the afternoon and turning fresher but we could see the odd localised thundery shower break out.

Fire crews from Oldham were out again last night dealing with a fire in moorland caused by a disposable BBQ. Fortunately they were able to bring the fire under control by this morning.

“Having a BBQ (or any fire) on the moors is thoughtless & irresponsible in this extreme weather.” they say

London Fire Brigade has declared a Major Incident in response to a huge surge in fires across the capital today.

Further afield firefighters are tackling ferocious wildfires in France, Spain and Portugal as the risk of more blazes remains high across southern Europe.

The high temperatures seen in Britain are also occurring in China and Japan.
