This year Bury Hospice celebrates its 30th anniversary. In that time it has provided a phenomenal level of care and support to people in the Bury area. Now a new partnership between the Hospice and top local estate agents Keenans will see a donation of £30,000 going straight to the fundraising efforts of the Hospice.

For every house listed during the month of July customers will be asked to commit to a donation to the Hospice when it sells. Keenans will effectively be selling houses for free.

Cousins Shakira Stasiak, Senior Negotiator, and Samantha Bradshaw, Valuer at Keenans Bury, explained about the pledge:

“As a family, we’ve had direct experience of the incredible service Bury Hospice provides to the community. When we were asked by Paul [Paul Keenan, Managing Director of Keenans] to nominate a charity we immediately proposed Bury Hospice.

“He came up with the idea of 30 for 30. For one month, for any house listed for sale, we won’t take a penny from our customers. Instead we’re asking people to donate a minimum of £750 to the Hospice. That’s less than half of what it would normally cost, add in gift aid and the grand total equals a £30,000 donation to the Hospice.”

The deal means that simply by listing a house with Keenans Estate Agents in Bury, people will also be helping fund the Hospice which has done so much to support the community over the past 30 years.

People may not realise that Hospices are self-funding charities. It costs around £3 million to run Bury Hospice for a year and the vast majority of that money comes from public donations.

Rachel Wallace, Head of Marketing and Communications at Bury Hospice, told us more:

“All the treatment and services we provide are free. At no point does anyone need to pay for anything, but that money has to come from somewhere. During Covid we’ve needed more resources, but at the same time we’ve had to shut our shops and cancel many of our fundraising activities. Despite that our patient care has never faltered.

“We’re here for the community, and it’s only because of donations that we can continue to operate. During covid, we didn’t have money for iPads so our patients could talk to their families. We didn’t have the money for PPE when we needed it, that money came from the community, and from businesses like Keenans.”

“Ironically, Covid has actually brought people together. It’s helped forge partnerships like this one between Bury Hospice and Keenans Estate Agents, and that’s how we’ll get through these challenging times.”
