Detective Constable Morgan Skeels-Caldwell (24) was named Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) Student Officer of the Year at the annual Chief Constable’s Awards 2023 in October 2023.
DC Morgan Skeels-Caldwell was recruited on the Police Now pathway and deployed to the Bury Neighbourhood Team. He very quickly became one of the top performing officers in his team and impressed colleagues with his proactive approach and dedication.
After he was confirmed in rank as a PC, DC Morgan Skeels-Caldwell successfully applied for a role in Bury CID and is now on the Detective pathway.
DC Morgan Skeels-Caldwell said: “I am very honoured and flattered to have won the award. It feels wonderful to be recognised for all the hard work I have put in during the first two years of my career.
“I will always remember winning this award, alongside the other firsts in my policing career, including securing my first charges and first convictions.
“They all make me feel that I am growing and developing into a capable and reliable officer who is doing a good job to help members of the public.
“I always wanted to work in public services and I’m so grateful that I chose policing after leaving the University of Warwick with a history degree. I knew I wanted to help people so policing seemed like a good fit and this job is like no other.
“I’m also so proud of the work I’ve done since joining. Completing all the required work as a student officer is hard enough on its own and when you add in the other work of an officer – including managing investigations and case files and doing proactive work such as arrests and stop searches – there is a lot to do in a very short period of time.
“I have shown myself to be somebody who has a positive attitude and despite being young in service I can be relied upon to get the work done.
“I have found the last two years to be very fulfilling and being recognised by my peers with an award at the Annual Chief Constables Awards gives me a great sense of pride. It was a moment I will never forget.”
