Andy Burnham is pledging to cut business rates for pubs and clubs by 20 per cent if he becomes Labour lesder

Burnham who confirmed last night that he will stand against Kier Starmer if he wins the Makerfield by election in two weeks time

Labour he said have got it wrong on small businesses as he pledged that rates  for pubs to be slashed and have many small family high-street businesses like hairdressers, cafes and shops taken out of business rates altogether.

”We have undervalued the contribution these businesses make to our livelihoods and our communities.”

The cuts he said would be funded by increasing taxes on online tech giants and their British warehouses

“Our high streets matter to me because they matter to the people who live here. I want to make sure that these family-owned businesses, as the heart and soul of this country, are protected and given the chance to thrive.

The Labour Manifesto at the last general election promised to scrap business rates entirely.
