The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has said that the Gorton & Denton by-election revealed the ‘full depth of the chasm between people and Westminster politics’

Speaking at a Centre for Cities event on whether he could come back to Westminster he said

‘From my point of view, I’m definitely not here to talk about my career plans, other than to say I wrote a book as you might know, with the mayor of the Liverpool City region Steve Rotheram about leaving Westminster and establishing devolution across England

He said that polling from More in Common which suggested that people think the cost of living crisis will never end should be ‘code red for Wesminster politics’

‘This is getting extremely dangerous, and change in our political system and culture is desperately needed’
