A Victorian school turned village hall is to get a facelift thanks to a modern housing development.
Salford City Council will use over £59,000 of S106 money from developers to help Boothstown Village Hall Association (BVHA) repair and redecorate the hall.

The hall was built by the Egerton family in 1874 and for many years was used as the village school. In 2011 the family gave the building to Manchester Diocese which leases it at a peppercorn rent to Boothstown Village Hall Association (BVHA).

Councillor Derek Antrobus, lead member for planning and sustainable development, said the funding was part of the conditions of granting planning permission for 12 houses on Vicars Hall Lane.

“The developer agreed they would pay £50,000 towards new or enhanced community facilities if the development went ahead. Local councillors identified this as a priority. Construction began last year so, with inflation, the S106 agreement now stands at £59,584.,” he said.

“BVHA is responsible for the upkeep of the village hall and has raised a lot of money to maintain and enhance the building but there’s always more work to do than money available. I’m delighted we can help them continue that good work by using this S106 funding. It’s exactly what it is designed for.”

The work is expected to be completed by summer next year.
