A disappointing night at Wimborne Road saw Belle Vue leave Dorset empty-handed after reigning champions Poole took a hefty 55-35 victory and three league points for good measure.

The Pirates, still stinging from two home defeats in a row, were on the attack right from the word go and gave the Rentruck Aces very few opportunities to make a mark on the meeting.

Mechanical problems for some of the riders only added to their woes, yet the men from Manchester soldiered on with unwavering determination to try and turn their night around.

Team boss Mark Lemon said he hoped the boys were “feeling the disappointment” after going down by 20 points and wants them to use that feeling as motivation to put things right in Manchester.

He continued: “Losing so comprehensively is tough to take but we have no excuses. We were beaten by a better team on the night and we can’t take anything away from Poole. It’s as simple as that.

“I think we hit them at the wrong time. They went into this off the back of two home defeats and that made them all the more formidable, and nothing we did seemed to go our way.

“Every time we launched an assault, it would backfire on us. We had engine failures, we had races pulled back and we just couldn’t land a blow. It was pretty clear we weren’t all firing on all cylinders.

“As frustrating as it is, this should give the boys plenty of motivation to repay the compliment when we face them at home on Monday. It’s a new day and a totally different animal at the NSS.”

Their defeat at Poole has only made the Rentruck Aces even hungrier for victory when they face the Pirates at the National Speedway Stadium this Bank Holiday Monday, May 6.
