Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham says the SNP’s ban on travel from Scotland to Manchester is an example of “double standards and hypocrisy”

Speaking to Nick Robinson on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show the Mayor said that Sturgeon had treated the North of England with “contempt”.

“It’s hypocrisy,The SNP is doing to us exactly what they always complain the UK government does to Scotland.”

He said, if the First Minister had made contact with him ahead of Friday’s announcement, they could have come up with a different arrangement.

“It’s simply wrong,” said Mr Burnham adding he would be looking for his constituents who planned to travel north of the border to be financially compensated by the Scottish Government.

“Why should a couple from Salford who are double jabbed who are about to go on a walking holiday in Scotland not be able to go?”
