A painting of Bolton boxer Amir Khan, which helped artist Christian Hook win the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2014, has come home to Bolton Museum.
Amir posed for the portrait in the summer and the finished masterpiece propelled Christian into the final rounds of the competition, where he and two other artists then took on the challenge of painting another Boltonian – Sir Ian McKellan.
The portrait of Amir has now been returned to Bolton Museum where it has taken pride of place on the walls of the art gallery.
During the process, Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Cllr John Byrne met the artist and Amir and took part in filming for the programme, which was aired just before Christmas.
Cllr Byrne joined Amir at the museum to celebrate the unveiling of the portrait, where it can be viewed by members of the public.
Amir said: “It’s great, I really like it. Being a Boltonian I’m really pleased that it’s on display in Bolton Museum.
“The child’s hand in the bottom right hand corner represents my charity work. And when my daughter Lamaisah is old enough I’m going to sign her up to the library.”
