The Conservative MP for Blackpool South Scott Benton faces a 35 day suspension from the Commons following a newspaper sting that found him allegedly offering to lobby on behalf of the gambling industry.
It teams that the Tories could face another by election if a recall petition goes ahead
Benton had a majority over just under 4,000 over Labour in 2019
Labour’s Jon Ashworth has called on Scott Benton to “do the decent thing and resign” so there doesn’t need to be a recall petition
It followed an investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards into whether Mr Benton had breached paragraph 11 of the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament:
Members shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its Members generally.
