Salford City stood third in the Conference North Table after Saturday’s 3-2 win at Moor Lane over Gainsborough Trinity. Goals from Simon Grand, Mike Phenix and Billy Priestley saw the Ammies come back from a goal down against a Trinity side who were reduced to ten men in the second half.

Centre back Gareth Dean’s 69th minute headed goal after the second half was delayed for almost 20 minutes due to a violent thunderstorm saw FC United fall at Brackley.

Altrincham’s 4-2 home defeat by Curzon Ashton saw the first managerial casualty of the season, Neil Young  resigning as manager after six Vanarama National League North games in charge saw the club in nineteenth place in the league.Curzon were 3-1 up after just twenty four minutes, conceding three times in a seven minute spell and the game was put to bed with a sixty second minute penalty.

Stalybridge’s bad start to the campaign continued at Bower Fold, with a 3-1 defeat by Gloucester, Celtic have yet to win at home this season, while the win for Gloucester was their first at the Tameside Ground.

In the Evo Stik Premier League, Ashton’s 2-0 win at Ilkeston with the home team starting their first game of the season after financial problems, put the Robins in second place.

It was good news on Tameside for their two clubs in Division One North.Droylsden are second in the table after coming back from a goal down to best Colne 2-1 at the Butcher’s Arms while four second half goals saw Hyde see off bottom club Goole and see Hyde third in the table.

Trafford suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 3-2 at home to Ossett Town after leading at half time while Radcliffe Borough earned a hard-fought point and their first of the season, at Prescot,  coming back from a goal down at half time, Jack Hindle repeating his FA Cup goal scoring exploits of the midweek.

Finally Mossley were rueing a number of missed chances as they lost at home to Tadcaster Albion, as skipper Jimmy Beadle’s thirty two yard strike hit the back of the net in the second half.

Bank Holiday Monday saw our local teams in action again.

Second half goals from Jordan Hulme and Simon Grand proved enough to give Salford a bank holiday win over local rivals Curzon Ashton which saw the Ammies remain unbeaten after promotion.

A crowd of 2,700 saw a five goal thriller at FC United’s Broadhurst Park which ended in defeat for the Reds.

Visitors Darlington were 2-0 up by the half hour mark but strikes by Jason Gilchrist and George Thomdon levelled things for FC only to be defeated nine minutes from time with a 25-yard Nathan Cartman shot.

Altrincham, who parted company with Neil Young over the weekend fell to a second defeat in 48 hours, Frenchmen Arthur Gnahoua scoring for Kidderminster just before half time at Aggborough while Stalybridge also suffered a second defeat of the Bank Holiday, Jason Walker settling the tie for Chorley at Victory Park after twenty minutes.

Into the Evo Stik Premier League and Ashton United finished the weekend in third place after a frustrating draw against Skelmesdale at Hurst Park coming back from behind to a first half penalty to equalise with twenty minutes left on the clock.

It was Derby day in Division One North,  a Mark Reed goal twenty minutes from time saw Hyde fall to defeat at Glossop while Mossley capitalised on defensive errors at Droylsden to pull off a 3-1 win courtesy of two Tom Pratt goals and a strike from Mark Fish.

Two second-half goals earned Radcliffe Boro their first league win of the season over Trafford, goals from Rokka and Hindle securing the win.
