An elderly man is fighting for his life following a collision in Stockport yesterday.

The accident happened around 12.45.The 76-year-old was believed to have taken ill at the wheel of his black Audi A5 before his car collided with a DAF skip truck on Chester Road as they drove in opposite directions.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital where he remains in a life threatening condition.

The driver of the skip truck was not injured but remained at the scene to speak with officers.

No arrests have been made.

Police Constable Anthony Pye, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are doing all we can to support this man’s family at this difficult time and our thoughts are very much with him as he is treated in hospital.”

“Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and Chester Road was closed at its junction with Woodford Road for four hours.”

“As the collision occurred at a busy time of day, we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed it or have any dashcam footage to come forward with information.”

“I would also urge anyone who saw the Audi before it was involved in the collision to get in touch so that we can determine exactly what happened.
