Police are appealing for information after a 72 year old man was found unconscious in Withington last night.

He was found unconscious on Egerton Road near to the Friendship Inn around 8.00pm and was taken to hospital with a head injury where he remains in a critical condition.

Police were alerted a short time later by the North West Ambulance Service and an investigation has been launched.

Detective Sergeant Mark Astbury, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We are currently following several lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances that led to this man being found unconscious.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area that could have seen anything that could help us build a full picture of what happened to please get in touch.

“Even if your information seems small or insignificant, it may be a vital piece of the puzzle so please call us so that we can make that judgement.”
