71-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder after the body of a women was found at a property in Altrincham yesterday.
Paramedics found the 59 year old woman deceased at an address on Whiteley Place around 8pm.
A police cordon remains in place as initial enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Kelly, of GMP’s Trafford division, said: “I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased woman and our thoughts are with them at this very sad and difficult time.
“Our team are in the very early stages of their investigation and it is important that we keep an open mind and explore all lines of enquiry at this point.
“If anyone was around the area of Whiteley Place at around 7.30pm to 8pm and has any information that they believe could be relevant to this investigation then we urge them to get in touch with us without hesitation.”
