A 60 years old woman is in hospital with critical injuries after she was hit by a car in Rochdale yesterday.

The accident happened just before midday on the A640 Milnrow Road between the junctions with Fishwick Street and Wood Street.

A green Iveco Stralis truck was turning off Milnrow Road when it collided with the woman.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for the driver of a purple or blue Nissan Qashqai, seen in the immediate vicinity just prior to the collision, along with any other witnesses, to come forward.

Police Constable Louise Warhurst, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman and her family as she remains in hospital and we’re doing all we can to support them.

“Whilst I would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch, we’re particularly keen to speak to the driver of a purple/blue Nissan Qashqai who left a building supplies company, by the scene, only seconds before the collision.

“I want to stress that they aren’t in any trouble but we believe they may hold key information to enable us to piece together the circumstances surrounding this collision.”
