A 46 year old man has died after being hit by a car in Clayton earlier this morning.

The accident happened at the junction of Clayton Street and Ashton New Road around 6.50am when a blue Seat Ibiza and pedestrian had been in collision.

The driver of the Seat Ibiza remained at the scene to assist police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are on-going.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are very much with family and loved ones of the man who has sadly died this morning. Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate his next of kin.

“We appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this collision to come forward and speak with police. We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dash-cam footage from the area at the time.”
