A 26-year-old man with a bullet wound to the chest, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital after a shooting incident in Openshaw which police are calling a isolated incident.

A 24 year old man was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries following the incident on Bob Massey Close on Monday evening.

Officers are keen to stress that this is understood to have been an isolated incident and there is believed to be no further threat to the public.

Extra police patrols have been deployed in the area for the coming days.

Senior Investigating Officer Mark Astbury, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “This was a serious incident which saw a young man very lucky to not lose his life as a result of the injuries he suffered.

“We are working meticulously to establish the details surrounding this event and we are continuing our investigation to ensure we bring those responsible to justice.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we believe there is no further threat to the public but extra high-visibility police patrols will be present in the coming days to ensure the safety of those in the area.”
