A man is fighting for his life after a collision in Ardwick last night.

A 24-year-old man was crossing Devonshire Street arounf 10.40pm when he was hit by a silver Toyota Yaris was driving along Devonshire Street North heading towards Hyde Road.

The man suffered a serious head injury and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The Toyota driver – a 26-year-old man – stayed at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. No one has been arrested.

The road was closed for four hours while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out examinations.

Lead investigating officer, PC Paul Joynson, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who not only witnessed the collision but also saw the Toyota driving beforehand and the pedestrian.

“We need to understand exactly what happened and to do so we need the public’s help.
