Police are looking for information after a woman was raped in Manchester City Centre at the weekend.

The 22 year old  was walking to a car parked near Portland Street when she was approached by a man around 1.00am on Sunday morning.

The offender attempted to use her phone then forced her into a nearby arch on Bloom Street, where it is believed the rape took place.

She managed to get away from the man and asked for a passer-by to call the police, but the offender had already made off in an unknown direction by the time police arrived.

CCTV images show a man officers want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Clare Smith of GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “It shouldn’t matter what time or day you’re walking around the city centre, no one should feel unsafe or be taken advantage of in this way, ever.

“Specialist officers are looking after the victim and ensuring she has the support she needs.

“This kind of crime is heinous and I am urging anyone who may have been around Bloom Street at this time, or who recognises the man in the images, to please come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 1911, 101 quoting reference number 180 of 09/07/17, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
