Plans to upgrade a busy road junction in Trafford have been revealed and will go out to public consultation

The junction where Talbot Road, Warwick Road and Brian Statham Way meet, near Old Trafford – part of Stretford Cycleway

The plans include a redesigned junction that separates pedestrians, cyclists and motor traffic more clearly when crossing.

Pavements will widened in key locations, including outside the UA92 campus, to give more space for pedestrians and people using mobility aids.

Brian Statham Way will be made one way, exit only, to reduce through traffic and support safer walking and cycling.

The plans will also see the raising of the carriageway and cycleway to the same level as the footpath and adding demarcation blocks between lanes

There will be new and improved cycle lanes to help people cycle safely through the area while keeping access for other users and the plans will also see the adding of retracting hydraulic bollards to control vehicle access and allow pedestrian-only use during events.

The junction is currently regarded as a ‘missing link’ in recent developments to create a seamless strategic cycle network along the A56 corridor, to the benefit of people walking, wheeling and cycling say Trafford Council
