A Stretford man was rescued from the Irish Sea after he had decided after a late night stroll on the beach on the Isle of Man to row the six miles to Douglas in a boat he found moored.

Interview after his escapade he described having taken part in a silly prank after he was caught in a sudden squall, lost an oar before being rescued the following morning by the Isle of Man steam packet.

A Manchester man died of lead poisoning.The coroners court heard that thirty eight year old Robert Todd from Chorlton-Cum-Hardy had was a designer for the calico printers association and had lost the use of his hands after continually handling paints with quantities of lead.
