A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning after a man in his 20’s was stabbed on Southwick Road in Northern Moor, Wythenshawe.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson from our Major Incident Team said: “Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are continuing to establish the full facts of this incident, but we believe both the suspect and the victim were known to each other. I would like to reassure the community in south Manchester that there is no wider risk to them.

“Officers will be at the scene throughout the day and will be patrolling the area over the weekend. If you have any concerns, please speak to them as they are there to provide reassurance and be a friendly face out in the community.

“A 19-year-old man remains in custody for questioning at this time. Our Family Liaison Officers are supporting the family of the deceased, and we are ensuring they are fully updated throughout.”

As the investigations continue, officers are appealing for information and anyone who may have witnessed last night’s events.

This includes anyone with any dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area at the time of the incident.
