After years of being talked about it seems that the link road between Wigan and Hindley is finally going ahead
As part of an announced investment of £27 billion, the Department for Transport has committed £127.8m and the GM Good Growth Fund has committed £25.7m to funding a Wigan to Hindley link road, connecting the A49 in Wigan to the A58 in Hindley
Aiming to reduce congestion and unlock future developments, the east-west link road between Wigan and Bolton is something that has been discussed for decades, so the funding of this phase of the project is a significant step forward
Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander said: “This is a transformational moment for people in the area – a project talked about for over 70 years is finally being delivered.
“It will ease congestion, unlock new jobs, and make a real difference to everyday life.”
