19 year old James Canning has become GMP’s youngest ever Special Constable after being attested by Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts at a ceremony last night 

James was one of 44 people sworn into GMP as a Special Constable last night, displaying their commitment to volunteering their free time to serve and protect the people of Greater Manchester.

Currently, James works as a customer service apprentice at the Rochdale Hornets Rugby Club.

James Canning, who lives in Rochdale, said: “I joined GMP as a Special because I felt that my time as a Volunteer Police Cadet really made it clear to me that I ultimately wanted a career as a police officer.Becoming a Special Constable is an excellent opportunity to really put myself in a great position to chase my career dreams.”

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts said: “We are pleased that James has chosen to continue his time with Greater Manchester Police by becoming a Special Constable.Special Constables make an important impact and contribution to their local communities.”
