A woman in her 40s was grabbed by an unknown man who threatened her for money. It is believed he was in possession of a knife.

She did not receive any injuries as a result of the incident which took place on Peak Forest Canal tow path, Woodley around 1.20pm on Monday afternoon.

The man is described as white, slim build, approximately 5 feet 9 to 10 inches in height, around 20 years old. He was wearing a black and grey face covering the bottom of his face, a long black puffer coat with a hood, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. He had a local Manchester accent.

Police Constable Steven Reed from GMP Stockport division said: “We understand this will cause some concern to the local public, but I can assure residents in the area we are taking this incident very seriously and conducting all lines of enquiry to ensure we find the person responsible.

“We have increased patrols in the local area and will continue to do so, but if you have any concerns at all, please do talk to our local officers for reassurance and guidance as we are continuing to exhaust all available lines of enquiry to ensure we can continue to keep our communities safe.

“We urge anyone who may have been in the area that afternoon to come forward. No matter how small you think the information may be, it could prove vital to the investigation and identify the suspects.”

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage from this area in the moments leading up to and after this incident happened.
