Manchester United has been in the headlines more times than they’re probably comfortable with over the last few months.

From the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November 2021 to their knockout of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough, it’s been a rough year for United. There are a lot of question marks above the team and with Erik ten Hag reported as the manager, there’s even more uncertainty about the future of the club.

One of the biggest questions about the club’s future is whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo will remain with the team following the dismal year.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo stay at Manchester United next Season?

The question of whether or not Manchester United will have Cristiano Ronaldo next year is not only one that’s haunted United fans, but Ronaldo himself.

Although the future of Ronaldo is uncertain, reports state that the soccer superstar will remain in the squad for the 22-23 season. The report comes from a reliable source, Manu Sainz, a journalist said to be close to the Ronaldo camp.

Ronaldo is United’s top goalscorer this season and is said to be excited about the new manager in Erik ten Hag. It’s his job not only to whip the unmotivated side back into shape but to get the most out of Ronaldo and the untapped potential that he still has in this United side.

Time will tell whether or not the rumours are true and there’s still time between now and the start of the season. But with Cristiano not showing any signs of wanting to slow, it’d be foolish to bet against his decision.

Manchester United’s current performance

The 21-22 season has been disappointing for Manchester United.

The team has struggled to remain in the top six teams in the Premier League and has suffered some brutal defeats against some of the top League teams. A recent 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, a 1-0 loss against Everton and a 4-1 result against Manchester City are just some of the recent poor performances by the squad.

But the concern about the quality of the side isn’t just concentrated in the Premier League, a shock defeat in the FA Cup by Middlesbrough was enough for fans to give up all hope of the current squad. With Cristiano Ronaldo the poster boy of the side, it would be easy to think that he’s ready to throw in the towel.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Frustrations

It’s rare that a player lashes out at fans following a game, but that’s exactly what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo and a young fan following the team’s defeat against Everton.

The Portuguese hero was filmed swatting a young fan’s phone to the floor in a clear display of frustration at the side’s performance. The British press were quick to condone the player’s actions in their usual manner – but the emotions and the frustrations with the team are clearly running high.

The thought of “where to next” is a question that must have crossed the mind a thousand times – but an answer other than Manchester United is almost unthinkable.

The takeaway

The long and the short of it is that we’re expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Manchester United for the 22-23 Premier League Season.

However, despite the reports stating as much, these things can change and we won’t know the future of the football star until he or the team confirm the future direction.

Cristiano may just be starting to slow down as a player, but it’s still been fantastic to have him back in the Premier League. Here’s hoping there are many more years of Ronaldo with Manchester United.
